Protecting Dundonald Rec
The Labour Council has finished consulting on the expansion of Dundonald Primary School.
The Council plan is to remove the grass bowling green and add another 270 square metres of grass. The pavilion will be out of bounds during the day.
The covenant covering the recreation ground confirms that as the law stands, the Council cannot build onto the park for any reason except for public pleasure.
Whilst we are not against expansion of local schools, we are against illegally building on the recreation ground. If the covenants removed, the ‘Rec’ could potentially be further developed ending this community space.
Labour politicians seem determined to build on Dundonald Rec. They cancelled the building of a new school less than a mile from Dundonald; they fought the introduction of a local, state funded Free School and they refuse to back the establishment of a junior school at Rutlish School.
All residents back the need for good schools for local children but the Labour Council needs to manage the school capacity more effectively.
Sadly, since the last election, Labour has mismanaged the Council, especially the long term issue of school capacity.
