 | Stephen Hammond MP welcomes expansion of Wimbledon secondary schools |
 |
Stephen Hammond, MP for Wimbledon, has welcomed the news that three schools in Wimbledon have been given the green light to accommodate sixth forms.
Merton Council’s Planning Applications Committee has announced that Raynes Park, Rutlish and Ricards Lodge secondary schools will have buildings delivered in February next year to accommodate a new wave of sixth form pupils from September 2010.
Stephen Hammond said: “This is good news for Wimbledon parents. It will offer a real choice to local parents in comparison to other competing boroughs. There is no doubt in my mind that sixth forms can play a huge role in raising schools’ standards.”
He added: “I have campaigned for the introduction of sixth forms since 2000 and I am delighted to see it finally happen. My congratulations to Merton Council.”
