Syed Kamall MEP

Conservative Spokesman on International Trade

Syed was born and brought up in London. He is married with two children. Syed was educated at the Latymer School, Edmonton. He has a degree from Liverpool University, a Masters from the London School of Economics and a PhD from City University, London.

He is a Visiting Fellow at Leeds University Business School where he has lectured MBA students in international business and strategy and supervised doctoral students’ research. He has written a number of articles on the international strategies of firms and foreign investment. In 1996, Syed completed a book on EU telecommunications policy.

Before entering the European Parliament, he worked as a consultant to companies on marketing, strategy and public affairs. In 2003, he started a diversity recruitment business. Syed is a co-founder of the Global Business Research Institute (GBRI), an educational body conducting outreach to business executives, journalists and civil servants, promoting a greater understanding of globalisation and its consequences. Syed’s interests include telecommunications, transport, postal services, broadcasting, global free trade and foreign investment.

Syed Kamall's Experience

Syed became a Member of the European Parliament in May 2005. He has been a member of the Conservatives since 1987 and has been a member of Vauxhall, Bath, Westminster, West Ham and Barking Conservative Associations. Since November 2007, Syed has been Treasurer of the Conservatives in the European Parliament.

In May 2000, Syed was a Conservative Candidate for the Greater London Assembly. The following year, he was Conservative candidate for West Ham in the June 2001 General Election.

Born in 1957, Charles is married with three children.

His interests include skiing, travel and financial markets.

Charles Tannock's Experience

Charles was first elected MEP for London in 1999. He is Conservative spokesman on Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, and former spokesman on Financial Services from 1999-2001.

He was the Assistant Whip for the Conservatives in the European Parliament from 1999-2001 and Deputy Chief Whip until January 2005. He was Conservative spokesman on Financial Services until 2001.

He is currently a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee where he is the EPP-ED Deputy Coordinator, a substitute member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Human Rights Sub-Committee of the European Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the EP-Ukraine Delegation. He is Founder of the EP friends of India and Rapporteur on the European Neighbourhood Policy.

Charles was Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer at University College Hospital and St Luke's Hospital from 1995-99.


Marina Yannakoudakis MEP

Marina Yannakoudakis represents Oakleigh ward on Barnet Council and chairs the council's Cleaner, Greener, Transport and Development Overview & Scrutiny Committee.She is Deputy Chairman of Chipping Barnet Conservative Association and an active political campaigner, canvassing in elections across the capital.

As a fundraiser Marina gets results. In 2005 to 2006 she was Chairman of The Mayor of Barnet's Charity Appeal 2005/6 and raised £60,000 for the mental health charity MIND.

In April 2008 Marina was selected in third place on the London list of Conservative prospective candidates for the elections to the European Parliament which will take place in June 2009.Her political priorities are standing up for Britain, sensible management of migration, setting business free, cracking down on EU waste and fraud and making Europe work for the UK.

Marina was Chairman of the Federation of Conservative students at Brunel University and chairperson for communications on the student union executive.
 
Marina was born in Paddington on April 16th 1956. She has a BSC in government, politics and modern history from Brunel University and a MA in Education from the Open University.

Marina now lives in Barnet, where she is a councillor.Together with her Greek husband Zacharias, she ran a successful pan-European company for 23 years. As Financial Director, Marina has a strong track record of negotiating in Europe on behalf of her UK clients. Her commercial experience gives her a genuine understanding of the pressures imposed on London's small businesses by too many regulations and directives coming from Brussels.

Outside politics and business, Marina is a school governor and enjoys spending time with family and friends - especially her three children who are all in further education. Marina has been married to Zacharias since 1983 and they live together with their children in Barnet. She finds time to play the saxophone and also produces works of sculpture which are donated for charity.
