WCA Campaigns : Northern/District Line Questionnaire

Northern / District Line Questionnaire

Stephen Hammond talks to Tube workers

Stephen visited the Northern Line’s control centre in Euston where he met David Millard, the General Manager. They discussed the problems that occur on the line and Stephen later commented, “I tried to impress upon Mr Millard the enormous effects his decisions have on the daily lives of my constituents. I shall continue to monitor the situation very closely.”

Stephen Hammond is concerned about the state of tube services to Wimbledon. Although his previous campaign has brought some upgrades to District Line trains, Stephen remains convinced that local commuters on both the Northern and District lines are getting a poor deal.

He believes that all too often trains are overcrowded, delayed or cancelled. Northern Line passengers have suffered engineering overruns resulting in delays and problems with the stairs at South Wimbledon, whilst District Line passengers suffered delays because rails had not been prepared for the summer heat. Meanwhile, Stephen has met the General Manager of the District Line, Bob Thorogood, to press for more trains to be routed to Wimbledon from Earls Court.
