WCA Campaigns : Mobile Phone Masts![]() NO MORE MASTSSINCE his election last May Stephen Hammond has continued the campaign against phone masts. When he was a local councillor Stephen started his campaign to require mobile phone mast applications to seek full planning permission and not be passed under the prior permission rules. Stephen said, “When I made my maiden speech in the House of Commons I highlighted the concerns of Wimbledon residents about the planning regime for phone masts and the lack of consideration of possible health risks. “Along with many local residents I have concerns about the ever increasing number of masts. I have continued to campaign and object to applications locally. I am particularly worried about concentrations of masts; for example, on top of the old Telephone Exchange on the Ridgway.
“We organised a meeting with Vodafone so they could listen to local opposition. I then wrote a letter proposing nine alternative more suitable sites. I am pleased to say that Vodafone are considering re-siting the mast to one of these sites. We are all hoping they will!” Local Councillor Beth Mitchell said, “Thanks to Stephen Vodafone came to meet local residents - we all hope they will adopt one of his alternative sites”.
