WCA Campaigns : Grimebusters

Wimbledon is known as one of the most attractive places in London. However, the "Decade of Decay" of the local Labour Council has seen us pay more whilst services and facilities decline. Wimbledon's reputation as a pleasant place to live is under threat.

The Conservative vision for Wimbledon is clear - thriving, educating, moving and safe. It is based on what residents of Wimbledon have told us - it is a vision for the future of our town and will be backed by action.

In the words of Stephen Hammond "We believe we can no longer sit back and ignore this problem. Merton's Labour Council have proved they cannot deal with this issue - it is time for us to act."

Since the launch of our campaign we have received many repsonses, including:

• Mrs. H. of Dane Road wanted, "More CCTV to catch graffiti culprits defacing property, especially street names."
• Mrs. M. of Darlastan Road told us: "High rates yet dirty streets . . . Rubbish is left for days . . . thank you for what you are doing."
• Mrs. B. of Aylward Road said, "Ease traffic congestion . . . on route to South Wimbledon tube station . . . improve rubbish collection and recycling of waste."
• Mr. O of Richmond Avenue complained, "Dirty Streets are left uncleaned."

But we remain committed to identifying decay, so if you have you seen the following:

• Graffiti daubed over walls and empty buildings
• Litter needlessly dropped and not picked up
• Streets not properly cleaned
• Fly-tipped rubbish causing an environmental health risk
• Dogs fouling the pavement

Let Grimebusters know. We promise to pursue the local Council to take action, and if they won't - we will!
